Dmitry Kuzmin is one of the most popular and richest Poet who was born on December 12, 1968 in Moscow, Russia. Dmitry Vladimirovich Kuzmin (Russian: Dmitrii Vladimirovich Kuz’min, born 12 December 1968) is an Russian poet as well as a critic and publisher.
Kuzmin actively promotes gay culture and combats homophobia. Kuzmin’s poetry (including explicit gay ones) and essays were published in a few Russian publications of literature. In 2008, he released an assortment of his poetry and translations. A few poetry were translated to English (A public space, Habitus, Aufgabe, Fulcrum, The Brooklyn Rail, Big Bridge, Zymbol e. a. ), French (Europe), Serbian (Treci Trg), Estonian (Vikerkaar). According to Russian academic Ilya Kukulin explains, “The subject of his poems is the nonconformist who has a critical attitude toward himself and the society he is part of, yet his perception of the world is impressionistic rather than discursive”. A different scholar Vitaly Chernetsky, links the origins of Kuzmin’s style to O’Hara’s poetry.
Kuzmin organized a lot of poetry readings, festivals and readings, “non- commercial”, as the title suggests. He says he’s published over 300 books written by other authors. He has won several awards for the promotion of works of young writers, like The Andrei Bely Prize (2002). In the following year, he became an Award Committee participant in the award (which he was a Committee member for). Since 2006, he’s been the editor of the literary magazine Vozdukh, “the newest undertaking of the effervescent young poet, critic and publisher” as Canadian slave Allan Reid put it. The year 2007 was the first time that an council of editors of major Russian literary magazines rejected adding Vozdukh within Zhurnalny Zal, an Internet library of Russian literary magazines. The decision was deemed to be unfair and controversial by a few Russian writers. Kuzmin has also been a part of the Advisory Board for St. Petersburg Review.

Kuzmin is a native of Moscow and was the son of the designer Vladimir Legoshin and the literary critic Edwarda Kuzmina; among his grandparents were the famous critic Boris Kuzmin and the prominent literary translator Nora Gal. In 1985 and 1987, he was an enrolled student in the field of philology within Moscow State University, but was exiled from the university. He earned an undergraduate degree in Philology from Moscow State Pedagogical University in 1993. He received an PhD for his thesis about poems that are one line. In 2014, he was a visiting professor at Princeton University. Since then, he is living in Latvia declaring himself a pro-democracy activist against the regime of Vladimir Putin in Russia.
He began his literary journey in 1988, when he founded an ensemble of poets that today are referred to in the “Vavilon” circle of poets/writers (this is the Russian word that means Babylon). The group of friends began creating an independently-published book series titled The Library of Young Literature. In 1993, he launched the ARGO-RISK (Russian ARGO-RISK) an independent poetry magazine. In 1996, he launched an initial issue of the gay-themed almanac RISK. The year 1997 was the time he launched the resource website Vavilon.ru which published texts written from, he claims around 200 Russian writers. Kuzmin said that the primary reason for the site was to stop the enormous surge in “commercial literature”, which was in with literature from the Russian market in the early days in the 1920s. He established LitKarta as a reference site which provides information about several people in that Russian writing community.
