He saw a slight increase in playing minutes in the year 2015 with three appearances on the bench during the Griffons’ Vodacom Cup season before he was able to play with the SWD Eagles during the Currie Cup First Division regular season as well as against the same opposition in their semi-final defeat of 40-47 one week later.
He made two starts and four appearances off the bench in the Griffons’ 2016 Currie Cup qualification campaign, and scored his first senior try in their 101–0 victory over Namibian side the Welwitschias in his third appearance of the season. The Griffons finished ninth, to qualify to the Currie Cup First Division.
Grobbelaar made his class debut in the month of March 2013 when he came as a substitute for the Griffons 2013 Vodacom Cup match against the Limpopo Blue Bulls in Polokwane. He made his first appearance the following week against Griquas but was not able to play with the Griffons throughout 2013. He played just one game during the 2014 Vodacom Cup as a substitute in a defeat of 10-49 in Blue Bulls Blue Bulls – before making his Currie Cup debut, playing as a bench player in the Griffons First Division match against the Border Bulldogs, helping his team win by 37-32.

Grobbelaar was born in Benoni and spent his childhood there in Mookgophong (known by the name of Naboomspruit from the year 2006) within the Limpopo province. He was picked as the representative of Limpopo in the Under-16 grant competition of 2008 Khomo Week, which was held in Ermelo which he was a part of two of the three games.
He was a player in 2012 when he played as a player in Welkom’s Griffons under-21 team for their Provincial Under-21 Championship campaign. He played the entire series wearing their number 8 jersey. He scored an assist against Pumas U21 during a defeat of 40-43 but he could not lead his team win by losing the entire six games to finish last in the log.
Grobbelaar signed a contract to play for the Port Elizabeth-based Eastern Province Kings in the 2016 Currie Cup Premier Division. He made his EP Kings – and Currie Cup Premier Division – debut in their Round Two match against the Boland Cavaliers. His only other appearance came as he started their rescheduled midweek match against Griquas in a 24–47 defeat. and his side eventually lost all eight of their matches in the competition to finish bottom of the log.
