The year 2016 began with a bang, Ribbans was named in the Stormers team to play in 2016’s Super Rugby season, but did not play in one of their matches. He was part of four games for an Western Province team that finished at the top in the 2015 Currie Cup qualification series, winning 13 out of 14 matches. He returned into the Western Province U21 side in the second part of the season, scoring an assist with Sharks U21 on one of the six occasions at the Provincial Championship for Under-21s in 2016. The player also played his first game at the Currie Cup Premier Division in the year 2016, appearing as a substitute during their 52-31 win against Griquas on the field in Kimberley. He was back on the bench just a day later against Boland Cavaliers. Boland Cavaliers, scoring his first first-ever try in first-class rugby. It was an important try in the game for Western Province who were 28-20 ahead at the time, in the game they needed to win in order to secure their passage for the semi-finals. fly-half Robert du Preez’s penalty and conversion five minutes later allowing them to ensure third spot on the list for Ribbans team. In the beginning of the year, Ribbans featured in a friendly match played by Super Rugby team the Stormers against the rival side Western Cape side the SWD Eagles as well as made his first appearance in the Super Rugby league in the month of March, 2015, playing in Western Province’s victory of 25-10 over a different club that is from the Western Cape, the Boland Cavaliers at Caledon during the Round One in the 2014 Vodacom Cup, his only appearance in the tournament. In the second quarter of 2015, he was a player in Western Province’s Western Province U21 team in the Group A of the Provincial Under-21 Championship. He soon became a major player, playing in ten of the twelve matches in the season. He scored a score during the game against Free State U21 as Western Province was crowned the top team on the league, winning ten of their games. Ribbans began their semi-final game with the Golden Lions and scored a score five minutes before the half as his team defeated the Golden Lions 43-20. The forward scored his 3rd attempt during the championship final scoring the fourth of Western Province’s six attempts in a win of 52-17 against their counterparts from the Free State U21s in Johannesburg to win a youth contest for the second year in succession.
