David Norman Greene (born June 22nd 1982) is an ex- American football player. Greene was selected with the Seattle Seahawks in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft. He played in the NCAA football tournament at Georgia.

In Georgia Greene’s Georgia school, one of his friends was the future Cincinnati Bengals defensive lineman David Pollack who was drafted 17th in the year 2005. They played together in football when they were kids in Snellville although they attended different high schools.

Greene was signed to the New England Patriots’ practice squad on September 19, 2007, [3] only to be released on November 20, 2007. [4]

Greene was signed to the practice squad of the Indianapolis Colts on September 25, 2008 after the team released quarterback Josh Betts. The Colts released Greene on November 14, 2008.

Greene was selected at the 3rd round and 85th overall at the time of the 2005 NFL Draft. Greene was the third pick in 2006 on the Seahawks depth chart just behind Matt Hasselbeck and Seneca Wallace. Greene was expected to challenge Seneca Wallace to be #2 on the Seahawks depth chart during the NFL Season, but disappointed by his performance in the preseason. At an earlier point, the coach Mike Holmgren expressed his dissatisfaction regarding Greene’s development as an offensive player. In September of 2007, Greene was released by the Seahawks. [2]

Greene was a the position of quarterback at University of Georgia in college. He started his career as an redshirt freshman in the year 2001 and was named the starting quarterback prior to the start of the start of the season. The most notable game of his freshman year was played against #5 Tennessee on the 6th of October which is known for”the “Hobnail Boot” game. This term was created by Georgia’s renowned play-by-play broadcaster Larry Munson. After Tennessee gained the lead during the 4th quarter thanks to an effective screen pass that was completed with 44 seconds left, Greene led the Bulldogs to the line with an amazing series of swift passes. The touchdown pass was completed towards fullback Verron Haynes in a famous game known as “P-44 Haynes” or the “Hobnail Boot” play with only five seconds left in the clock. When Greene completed his pass with Haynes at the goal line to score the winning touchdown and the announcement by announcer Munson gave the decisive announcement: “We just stepped on their face with a hobnail boot and broke their nose. We just crushed their face!”

This game marked the beginning of Greene’s record-setting tenure at Georgia which culminated in his leading Georgia to the Sugar Bowl victory in 2002. The following season, he guided his team of Bulldogs towards their the first SEC title since the 1982 season. Greene earned the title of SEC Offensive Player of the Year following the 2001 season and was named the In 2002, the Offensive Player of Year in the Southeastern Conference. In 2004 Greene completed the 214th consecutive pass attempt without an interception. This record was broken only when he was beaten by Andre Woodson from Kentucky in 2007.

Greene was then signed to the practice squad of the Kansas City Chiefs, and eventually promoted to the active roster on December 29, 2007. He was waived by the team on July 18, 2008.
