David Blair Biography
Birthday | Jul 14 |
Birth Year | 1985 |
David Blair is one of the most popular and richest Rugby Union Player who was born on July 14, 1985 in Monaghan, County Monaghan, Ireland. David Blair (born 1973 in Malawi to British parents) is the Chief Foreign Correspondent at The Daily Telegraph, having formerly worked for the Financial Times as Energy Correspondent as well as The Daily Telegraph as a Foreign Correspondent, and later as a Diplomatic Editor.
Blair wrote extensively about Iraq prior to and following the 2003 invasion by the United States of Iraq. In the midst of looting that took place in Baghdad the month of April, 2003 Blair went into Saddam’s old foreign ministry , and discovered documents that claimed to prove the fact that George Galloway, then a parlamentar was a recipient of cash from the regime that had been ousted. Galloway was adamantly against this accusation and filed a lawsuit against The Daily Telegraph for libel on the entirety of Telegraph reports, which also included the work of other journalists as well as editorials. Galloway was successful in November 2004, and the newspaper compensated him for damages of around PS150,000, and following a failed appeal, legal expenses of approximately PS2 million. It was not the case that The Daily Telegraph did not attempt to provide the following justification (where the defendant tries to prove the validity of the defamatory report): “It has never been the Telegraph’s case to suggest that the allegations contained in these documents are true”. The paper instead tried to claim that it acted in a responsible way since the claims it made were of sufficient public importance to offset the harm done to Galloway’s name. But the judge in the trial rejected this argument and said that the idea that Galloway was accused of “treason”, “in Saddam’s pay” as well as being “Saddam’s little helper” caused the judge to conclude that “the newspaper was not neutral but both embraced the allegations with relish and fervour and went on to embellish them”.
In 2009 Blair left his Daily Telegraph diplomatic editor post to join the Financial Times as Middle East and Africa news editor. In 2010 he was appointed the Financial Times energy correspondent.
In November 2011 Blair returned to the Daily Telegraph as chief foreign correspondent.
In the following years, he worked in Pakistan (2002 2003) and in the Middle East (2003 – 2004). Blair was among the first journalists to go to Jenin Refugee Camp in the West Bank after the controversial Israeli attack during April of 2002. Blair’s front page article about suffering Palestinian hardships caused by the attack that was headlined “Blasted to Rubble by the Israelis” Attracted a lot of interest since The Daily Telegraph had always been thought to be favorable to Israel.
