David John Hume Walder (born 7 May 1978 in Newcastle) is a former union rugby player who has been appointed head coach of Newcastle Falcons beginning in 2017-18 and beyond as well as an attacking coach since the year 2015.
He won his latest England captaincy against Wales in an World Cup warm up match in Cardiff in August 2003. However, he did not make it to the squad of this year’s World Cup and he stayed at home.

He attended Oundle School in Northamptonshire followed by Durham University. He graduated from Hatfield College, Durham in 1997, for The Sport in the Community course after being disqualified at the time by Hild Bede College. Although he initially intended to concentrate upon cricketing, the departure of plans at the college (Hatfield has a good reputation for its rugby team) resulted in a change of plans. He was given a contract as a professional player with Newcastle Falcons to start when the end of his degree.
In the final season of his time during his time at the university 1999-2000, he was presented with a full-time palatinate by the university for his achievements in the field of rugby. This includedbeing picked as a representative of North East Universities for a game against a team representing an earlier Orange Free State in January and receiving being presented with a note of appreciation to Tim Burt; making his debut for his England Under 21 team in a match against Scotland on February 29, 1999 shortly after, he made his debut in the team of Newcastle in a match against Richmond. He played minor county cricket for Northumberland between 1997 and 1999.
He most recently played at fly-half for Mitsubishi Sagamihara DynaBoars in Japan, having signed for them from London Wasps at the end of the 2010-2011 season. He joined London Wasps from Newcastle Falcons in the summer of 2006, and he played a large part in his team’s first win, against the Saracens. Walder signed a one-year deal to play for Air New Zealand Cup side North Harbour, but was unable to go through with the move due to injury.
