Daniel James Hipkiss (born 4 June 1982) is a former rugby union player who scored thirteen caps with England between 2007 and 2010, including participating in 2007’s Rugby World Cup Final, and played 130 times with Leicester Tigers between 2001-11. In addition, he played at Bath before resigning in May of 2013. Mostly being an outside center Hipkiss could also be seen inside the centre, as well as later on the side.
The 2008-09 season saw the Tigers participate in two finals and Hipkiss playing in both. He played in the 12th position as Leicester defeated London Irish 10-9 in the 2009 Premiership Final and again the following week, when Leicester lost the Heineken Cup final to Leinster 19-16. Hipkiss his performances in these matches was enough to see him play each of the summer Tests with England in the match against Argentina. He was a part of 2009. the Autumn International against New Zealand and was in the middle alongside former Tigers teammate Ayoola Erinle as his partner in both finals of 2009 for Leicester.
During the 2009–10 season, Hipkiss suffered an injury midway through the season, but returned to play for Tigers’ A-league side in their semi-final against the Saracens’ A-league side. He scored a try, and the team won 23–11. He went on to score a further try in the final, where the team won the ‘A’ league.
He continued his streak of tries when playing as a substitute in the 2010 Premiership Final, again against Saracens. Tigers went one point behind four minutes from time, and Hipkiss wriggled through an attempted tackle from the retiring Glen Jackson to score the winning try, to leave the game at 33–27.
In the beginning, Hipkiss had a difficult time breaking into the Leicester team’s starting lineup prior to playing 12 times in the season 2005/06. The following season was to be his breakthrough season, playing in thirty minutes for Leicester and winning the title of Tigers Players’ Player of the year in 2006-2007. In 2006, he was awarded his very first Premiership medal, which was presented in with the final match as Leicester beat Gloucester. Hipkiss was made an England debut on the 4th of August 2007 with a 62-5 victory over Wales at Twickenham in a warm-up practice match for the 2007 Rugby World Cup.

After overcoming a life-threatening knee injury during November of 1999. Hipkiss was able to make his debut debut for the Tigers U21s in a game against Leeds on November 9 2001, scoring a goal during his debut. He was drafted into the first-team squad for training during the summer of 2002 and made his Premiership debut in Leeds the following year. Hipkiss was among five Leicester players selected to in 2003’s IRB U21 World Cup. He was selected to be part of the England Sevens team in 2004. He was soon a regular player in the highly successful Tigers U21 squad in 2002-03, and was captain of the Leicester team in 2005’s Middlesex Sevens at Twickenham.
He was included as England’s player for the 2007 Rugby World Cup squad and participated in group stage games with Samoa in addition to Tonga. He did not play in the quarter-final, but he was replaced by the injury-ridden Josh Lewsey before half time during the semi-final win against France. Hipkiss was substituted for at the time of the World Cup Final in 2007. Rugby World Cup Final against South Africa and replaced Jason Robinson in the second period as England fell 15-6.
Returning from the World Cup Hipkiss played regularly for Leicester but missed January with a groin injury and subsequently was left out of the England Squad for the 2008 Six Nations Championship. Hipkiss started both the 2008 Premiership Final against Wasps and the 2008 Anglo-Welsh Cup Final against Ospreys which Leicester lost. On 20 May 2008 he was selected for England’s squad to play against New Zealand, however he was injured in the Premiership final with a fractured cheekbone. This injury meant Hipkiss missed the tour to New Zealand.
