In 2009, Terrill created a series of photographs on The Theatre Royal, Haymarket, London that was titled Theatreland in 2009 for Sky Arts. This was a intimate portrayal of theatre professionals in action and included Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart and Anna Friel. The same year, he produced a two- part documentary series on Royal Marines, badly injured in Afghanistan trying to scale the mountains of the Himalayas (Wartorn Warriors, Sky1). In 2010, he was stationed for six months aboard HMS Manchester located in the Caribbean filming operations against narcotics and humanitarian disaster aid during storm season (Royal Navy: Caribbean Patrol for Channel Five and National Geographic). In the year 2011, Terrill returned to work as a member of members of the Royal Marines when he joined 42 Commando in the dangerous Nad e Ali (north) district of Helmand Province. It was part of a six-part series that was commissioned from Channel Five entitled “Royal Marines: Mission Afghanistan” which aired during January / February of 2012.

Terrill creates his own camerawork and audio recording without the help of a film crew. The “lone wolf” technique is an integral part of the work he does. In 1999, Terrill got engaged during a brief time to the former fashion model Heather Mills. The couple proposed while on a fishing vessel while sailing along to the Mekong River , which flows through Cambodia in the middle of filming a documentary about landmines.

In late 2011 Terrill embarked on a project that brought together the military and the theatre. The Theatre Royal, Haymarket (where Terrill had filmed Theatreland in 2009) put on a play using injured soldiers and marines as the actors, singers, and dancers. The play, written by the poet Owen Sheers and based on the experiences of the soldiers mostly in Afghanistan, was called The Two Worlds of Charlie F and was performed on 22 January 2012. Terrill’s feature-length film entitled Theatre of War, documenting the preparation of the play, was shown on BBC1’s Imagine strand and was nominated for a prestigious Grierson Award in the best arts documentary category.
