Chris Birchall is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on May 5, 1984 in Stafford, Trinidad and Tobago. The agent for Birchall was spreading information about the possibility that he might actually represent his homeland of mother’s birth. The first time he was informed of the keenness to sign the player from Trinidad & Tobago international central defender Dennis Lawrence, who walked into the match that was played between Port Vale and Wrexham (Lawrence’s club at the time). Lawrence asked if he could actually be a part of”Soca Warriors. “Soca Warriors” by saying “I hear you’ve got some ‘Trini’ blood in you?”. After his first appearance with the national team there was a lot of talk in the media that Birchall became the very first player of white descent to play for the nation in sixty years. However , current Trinidad head coach Stephen Hart is white and was a player for Trinidad & Tobago in 1980. It is believed that the “Prince of Port-of-Spain”, West Indies cricketer Brian Lara was also credited with helping the TTFA learn about Birchall following the incident in which Ashley Giles made a comment about having West Indian blood in his family. When asked by reporters from Trinidad and Tobago why he was able to play for them, the answer was “Me mum”. This unique response led to the “Soca Warrior” nickname, “Me Mum’.
The most significant contributions to his team “Soca Warriors” came on 12 November 2005, during the home (first) match in their FIFA World Cup qualifying play-off against Bahrain. Bahrain’s Salman Isa scored the goal within the 72nd minute. they were on the verge of taking the lead 1-0 back to home for the return leg however, five minutes after, Birchall fired in a spectacular goal from just beyond the penalty box to make it 2-2. It was the “Soca Warriors” went on to beat the final portion of the play-off match in Bahrain by 1-0 (on an assist from Lawrence) and progress to their first World Cup finals. Alongside goalkeeper Shaka Hislop, Birchall was the only player on this World Cup squad to have been born in England while the other players being all brought up within Trinidad and Tobago.
In July 2006, with the World Cup still in progress, Martin Foyle denied reports that his young midfielder would be exiting Vale Park, specifically for Ipswich Town. The next month Birchall was snapped up by Micky Adams’ Coventry City for a fee of £300,000 (rising to £325,000 with bonuses), signing a three- year deal with the “Sky Blues”. He scored his first “Sky Blues” goal against Norwich City with a 20-yard (18 m) low drive. He made 28 appearances in the second tier that season.
Forging his career with local club Port Vale, he earned worldwide recognition by playing at the 2006 FIFA World Cup for Trinidad and Tobago – the country of his mother’s birth. His exploits led to a move up the leagues to Coventry City later that year. After short loan spells with Scottish side St Mirren and Carlisle United, he moved on to Brighton & Hove Albion. In 2009, he moved to the US to sign with MLS club LA Galaxy. Whilst with the Galaxy, the club were crowned Major League Soccer Western Conference champions in 2009 and 2011, and also captured a Supporters’ Shield and MLS Cup double in 2011. He joined Columbus Crew for a six-month spell in May 2012. He rejoined Port Vale in January 2013, and helped the club to secure promotion out of League Two in 2012–13. He dropped into non-league in September 2016 by joining Kidsgrove Athletic.
He played only two Second Division appearances in 2002-03 two away defeats. Christopher Birchall, CM (born on May 5, 1984) was an ex-professional footballer who was a midfielder. His goals included 21 over 322 league and cup matches during his professional career of 16 years scoring four times in his 44 international games.
Birchall was a student at Alleyne’s High School located in Stone, Staffordshire, and began his professional journey in the football club Port Vale, having been affiliated with the Burslem club since the age nine. The club made him debut with Brian Horton on 12 September 2001, taking over Neil Brisco 79 minutes into the Second Round’s 2-0 loss from the League Cup at Charlton Athletic’s The Valley stadium. On April 20, 2002, the player became a league player in a similar fashion to Neil Brisco and this time, with a 1-0 loss against Brighton in Vale Park.
