The fund’s investments include a partnership in Weber- Stephen Products with the Stephen family, a manufacturer and distributor of barbecue grills; a minority share in Pilot Flying J which is operated by Tennessee’s Haslam families; a partnership in Tory Burch LLC; Wrigley Building, Chicago; a partnership in Tory Burch LLC with the Rales family, an industrial manufacturer; a partnership in Colfax with the Eckstein family, Marquette Transportation; a partnership in Alliance Management and coinvestors, the largest commercial laundry system manufacturer of commercial laundry machines; and its founder family, Cox Enterprises to support the acquisition of Dealertrack BDT Capital Partners partnered with Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria to acquire an equity stake and also partnered up with Mark Kaufman, founder and CEO, for an investment in Athletico Physical Therapy. This company provides orthopedic rehabilitation services. Peet’s Coffee & Tea and Caribou Coffee are also minority portfolio investments. BDT purchased a majority stake in Texas burger chain Whataburger with the Dobson family on June 14, 2019.
Trott is a trustee of University of Chicago. He founded the Jeff Metcalf Internship Program. Trott also helped to create the Trott Business Program. This program provides undergraduate students at UChicago with mentorship and practical work experience. Trott is also a director of Conservation International. In 2011, he was inducted into The Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans. He currently serves as the President of the Association.

Trott was born in Union, Missouri and received his AB degree from the University of Chicago in 1981. He also earned a MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business (in 1982).
