Sammy Monsels (born 2 August 1953) is an Surinamese former sprinter and a current athletics coach. He participated in the 100 and 200m in the 1972 Summer Olympics and also at the 1976 Summer Olympics. He is the younger brother of the sprinter Eddy Monsels.

Monsels was born in Suriname He went to Mulo there. He travelled in the Netherlands in 1971 in order to compete at the Kingdom Games, and remained in the Netherlands for further training as technical specialist. At the time of Paramaribo, Monsels was a participant in the ‘Gazelle’ athletics club.

As late as 1990, Monsels competed in the Netherlands national indoor athletics championships in The Hague, finishing third in the 60 metres with a time of 6.89 seconds, behind Emiel Mellaard and Frank Perri.

Monsels returned to the Netherlands in 1992 and was founder of Atletiek Vereniging Bijlmer, an athletics club in Bijlmermeer. Until 1997 he was trainer and president of the association. Then in 1999 he founded Continental Sport, another athletics club in the area. He again became trainer and president.

In 1971, Monsels was the Surinamese champion in 100 m and 200 m at in the upper levels (11.0 second and 22.3 seconds) as well as the junior level (11.0 as well as 22.5).

In the beginning of the 1970s, Monsels was a tank driver for the Royal Netherlands Army. In 1975, he re-entered Suriname after having left the Netherlands after the country became independent. He was a sports coach within Suriname’s Suriname National Army. Following the coup of 1980 and subsequent promotions, he was promoted and was appointed sports chief in the Surinamese army. He was promoted to the rank of captain in 1983. was acting in the role of intermediary between powerful Desi Bouterse and dislocated Hendrick Chin A Sen. In 1987, he quit Surinamese army.
