April began his professional career by playing for Boland club team Roses United and often played for them throughout his career. He also was a part of the Boland U19 team in 2002 as well as their U20 team in 2003.
He relocated into his new home in the East Rand in 2005, becoming a member of the Falcons. He made his senior debut during the 2005 Vodacom Cup competition, starting their game with Western Province. The Falcons also saw him make the Currie Cup debut during the same season scoring six tries during the First Division campaign. He played regularly for them during the year 2006’s Vodacom Cup and scored five tries in order to assist the Falcons to win the trophy – the first trophy they’ve won in their history. They also get into their 2006 Currie Cup Premier Division, in which April was unable to score in five games. He had 32 games for Falcons Falcons during their Vodacom Cup and Currie Cup competitions, scoring 12 attempts.
His continuous try-scoring exploits for Roses United led to him returning to provincial rugby in 2010 with the Boland Cavaliers. He played in a compulsory friendly match against the Golden Lions, coming on as a second-half substitute and it just took him eight minutes to get a try for Boland. He established himself as a regular starter for his team over the next few seasons and kept up his try-scoring exploits, finishing as the top try scorer for the Cavaliers during the 2012 and 2013 Currie Cup seasons.
