A free agent, Riley signed a one-year agreement for his 6th AHL team, the Stockton Heat, an affiliate of the Calgary Flames, on September 4 of 2015.
On July 6, 2019, Riley signed for Belfast’s league rivals Cardiff Devils.
On the 16th of July, 2013, after having not been offered an extension to the Islanders, Riley signed as an unrestricted free agent for the 1-year AHL deal with the St. John’s IceCaps. Riley set an AHL record by scoring 21 points in 71 games , before being the alternate captain during his second season with the club during 2014-15.

Riley was a student at Ferris State University where he played NCAA Division I college hockey as part of Ferris State University’s Ferris State Bulldogs men’s ice hockey team. After completion, Riley turned professional to join the Springfield Falcons for three games after the conclusion the 2009-10 AHL season.
In June of 2012 Riley got his first NHL contract. He signed an one-year contract in New York Islanders, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers affiliate, the New York Islanders.
After 7 seasons within the AHL, Riley left North America as a free agent to sign a one-year deal with Northern Irish EIHL participant, the Belfast Giants on August 8, 2016.
