Jain’s second book, Own It: Leadership Lessons From Women Who Do, was published in 2016 by Harper Collins India. Based on interviews with over 200 women professionals in senior managerial and leadership positions in India, the book takes a thorough look at women’s problems in the workplace. The book has been reviewed positively as ‘a resource for inspiration for women struggling with issues’ such as bias, bullying, sexual harassment, and impact of motherhood, and as a ‘go-to book for those chief executives and HR heads who are serious about fostering a gender-neutral workplace’.
Aparna Jain is a certified Integral Master coach, marketing consultant and an author. She has spent the last 23 years across various industries in corporate India and in media, in roles ranging from business development to marketing. Jain is also the author of two books – one a family project called The Sood Family Cookbook and the more notable Own It: Leadership Lessons From Women Who Do, which was shortlisted for the Tata Lit Live Festival’s Business Book of the Year category in 2016.
Jain has worked for several companies that includes Sasken in Bangalore and the once-independent Unimobile within Silicon Valley, and then as a journalist working for The India Today Group, where she was the marketing director for the magazines Cosmopolitan as well as Good Housekeeping. She also collaborated with Tehelka as an executive director for the annual Tehelka event Think Fest, in 2011 and in 2012. She has also worked for HarperCollins Ltd and was the consultant country director for the self-publishing department within Penguin Random House in India – Partridge.

Jain is a native of New Delhi, but grew up in Bangalore in Karnataka. She has attended various schools, including Sophia High School in Bangalore and Rishi Valley School in Madanapalle, Andhra Pradesh. Jain later moved into Switzerland where she attended the Alpina School of Hotel Management and earned the Diploma with a double-specialisation in sales & Marketing and Food & Beverage in 1993.
