Allan Jacobsen, a former Scottish rugby union player, was born 22 September 1978 in Edinburgh. Jacobsen, nicknamed “Chunk”, was a professional player for Edinburgh throughout his career.

He was 15 months away from his 2002 cap against Ireland in the 2003 international. While he was selected as a tight-head prop in the tour’s warm up match against Barbarians, he had already reverted back to his usual position on the scrum when his first cap was won. Allan was a substitute in eight Scottish internationals in 2006-07. However, he was back in Scotland’s starting XV for the World Cup warm up contest in which Scotland defeated Ireland 31-21 at Murrayfield. He was injured in his World Cup debut against Portugal in St Etienne. The injury meant that he had to withdraw from the squad. He was still loose-head for all the matches of Scotland in the 2008 RBS Six nations Championship. This included the Calcutta Cup win against England at Murrayfield. Later that year, he continued that role for the two Tests to Argentina. He was a loose-head prop for three matches in Scotland on the 2000 tour to New Zealand two years prior to his first cap.

On the 2004 summer tour to Australia, injury curtailed him to only two outings (against Queensland Reds and New South Wales Country), but he regained his starting place for that year’s Autumn Tests series. Allan made his first start in a Murrayfield international match when he played against Ireland in the RWC Countdown Test in September 2003. Though omitted for the World Cup in Australia, he was subsequently called up to the Scotland in Australia as a replacement for the injured Gavin Kerr.

He tore a groin muscle in the 2007 Rugby World Cup and required shoulder surgery having injured himself against Italy. He was scheduled to be out for four months.

On the 2002 summer tour of North America, he made his international debut against Canada.
