Zhao Benshan is one of the most popular and richest Comedian who was born on October 2, 1957 in Kaiyuan, Liaoning, China. Zhao Benshan is a Chinese comedian, actor, director of television, and businessman. He is simplified Chinese as Zhao Ben Shan and traditional Chinese as Zhao Ben Shan. Zhao, originally from Liaoning, has been a regular on the CCTV New Year’s Gala. This is a popular performing arts program that has been viewed over a wide audience every year since 1990. Zhao’s performance at the gala made him a household name.
Zhao has been an actor in many films including Zhang Yimou’s Happy Times (2000), where he played an elderly bachelor who wanted to marry.
In 2004, Zhao Benshan co-founded the Benshan Art Academy at Liaoning University, to nurture new Errenzhuan players. In 2005, he established Benshan Media Group, the parent company of Liaoning Folk Art Troupe, Benshan Production, Ruidong Culture Development Co. Ltd and Benshan Arts Academy.
Zhao’s most memorable performances have included “Yesterday, today and tomorrow” and “Fixing up the house” with Song Dandan, “Bainian” with Fan Wei and Gao Xiumin, a reprisal of “Yesterday, today, and tomorrow” with Song Dandan and Cui Yongyuan in 2006, and “Don’t need money” in 2009 with Bi Fujian and Xiaoshenyang. Zhao became a household name in China since he began appearing at the Gala. His performances have generally received critical acclaim, earning the ‘top-grade’ prize (一等奖) for the “skits” category for thirteen years in a row between 1999 and 2011. Zhao’s skit was almost always one of the most anticipated and talked-about events of the Gala.
Zhao married Ma Lijuan (Ma Li Juan) in 1992. She was a Hui Chinese lady from Chifeng, Inner Mongolia. The couple had fraternal twins, Zhao Yinan (now Zhao Yihan) in 1997. Zaobao, a Singaporean Chinese-language newspaper, reported that Ma Lijuan lived in Singapore with their two children. The story was published after Ma sued a local car dealership for a Porsche she bought.

Zhao married Ge Shuzhen (Ge Shu Zhen ) in 1979. Ge was a 19-year-old farmer from a nearby village when they were married. They had Yufang, a daughter and Tiedan, a son. Both had osteomalacia, emphysema, as well as heart disease. Ge was granted custody of the children after Zhao and Ge split in 1992. Zhao, according to reports, made a lump-sum payment for child support and medical expenses to his ex-wife. He left with the intention of having a ‘clean break. Ge Shuzhen was an entrepreneur after his divorce. He worked in a variety of low-wage jobs. In 1994, his son Tiedan, aged 12, died.
