Julian Dean is one of the most popular and richest Sport Cyclist who was born on January 28, 1975 in Wainui, Auckland Region, New Zealand. Julian Dean (born 28 January 1975) is a former professional road racing cyclist from New Zealand who competed as professional from 1999 until 2013. He was last on the road for UCI World Tour team Orica-GreenEDGE and is now employed as an assistant director of sports and coach. His most notable achievements included winning both the 2007 and the 2008 New Zealand National Road Race Championships and finishing 9th at the 2005 World Road Championships in Madrid and 10th in the 2002 World Road Championships in Zolder. At the height of his career, he was thought to be the best lead out rider on the planet and was highly regarded by his fellow teammate and friend Thor Hushovd.
In 2007’s Tour de France, Dean was famous for his leading-out role to Thor Hushovd. Hushovd later stated on television that Dean is “the best lead-out man in the world.” Dean’s last appearance in public in his Credit Agricole uniform was at the 2007 Mt Maunganui Criterium Race, that was held on December 27, 2007. Dean was awarded the top prize in the elite category.
From 2008 to 2011, Dean rode for Jonathan Vaughters’ team Slipstream–Chipotle. He once again started the year by winning the New Zealand national Road Racing Championship, held in January. He recorded six top-ten finishes in the 2008 Tour de France, with a best performance of fourth in stage 14. His overall classification was 110th, and 9th in the points competition.
In 2009, during the 13th stage of the Tour de France from Vittel to Colmar he, along with Óscar Freire of Rabobank got shot by an air rifle. He got shot in the thumb but was able to continue with a largely swollen hand where he eventually finished 112th on the stage. In completing the Tour de France, Dean became the only rider to start and finish all three grand tours during the 2009 season.
In 2004, he joined Credit Agricole as a lead-out man for sprinter Thor Hushovd. He placed 8th, just behind stage winner Tom Boonen during the stage 6 in the Tour de France. He was unable to participate in his 2005 version of the Tour because of an injury sustained during his 2005 Giro d’Italia. Then he returned to the 2006 version.

The Dean family was born in Waihi, New Zealand, Dean is the son of Waimata dairy farmers Peter and Valerie Dean. The locals call him”the “Grasshopper”, started cycling when he was an infant, and began with the local BMX club inthe year 2000, where he achieved good results with his two third-place finishes at the New Zealand Championships. Dean attempted numerous sports before turning to triathlon, which he loved. Following his triathlon experience, Dean fell in love with cycling. He was a part of New Zealand in road and track discipline. The year 1997 was the time Dean had the opportunity to compete in the US together with the Shaklee team as well as the Mercury cycling team in the year 1998.
The year 1999 saw Dean was signed up to the now defunct US Postal Service Pro Cycling Team which he raced until 2001, while gaining experience races in Europe. Dean scored his first European victory with two stages wins during the Tour of Britain. After riding in the team of Lance Armstrong Dean went looking for opportunities to make a new mark.
The 2007 cycling season started well with Dean winning the New Zealand Road Racing Champion title. This win entitled Dean to represent and wear the black and white New Zealand national cycling jersey whilst racing in all international road-racing events throughout the 2007 season. He continued to ride for the French-based team Crédit Agricole.
