Keenan is a skilled full-forward who has played at all levels with Laois. In 2006, he joined the senior panel. He made his debut against Offaly at O’ Moore Park. He scored a point. He was fired from the panel in 2008 following a dispute with Damien Fox, his manager. In 2009, he returned to the panel but was injured in an NHL league match with Kerry. He was then ruled out of the entire year. Keenan’s return was a positive one. He won a Division 2A gold medal against Westmeath and also scored in four games against Antrim (Carlow), Galway, Galway, and Clare.

However, he lost to Castletown in a replay. Camross and Castletown faced off in the Laois Senior Hurling Championship. There was an off-the-field brawl. Camross won by a score of 2-11 to 0.10. Laois County Board rejigged both teams from the 2007 championship a week later. Both clubs appealed this decision and were allowed to return to the championship after months of collaboration. Keenan felt Laois County Board had made a personal attack against Camross and him so he decided not to take part with Laois. Keenan participated in the 2007 Laois County Final where he beat Portlaoise 3-3. He was the top scorer in Laois Senior Championship and the Hurler of The Year.
