Yitzhak Yosef, the sixth child of Ovadia Yosef, the former Shas’ spiritual leader, was born in 1952. Talmud Torah Yavneh was his school. He began his studies in the junior yeshiva Porat Yosef, Katamon, Jerusalem at age 12. He continued his studies at Yeshivat HaNev in Netivot and then at Hebron Yeshiva, Jerusalem.
He was appointed as rabbi for the moshavim Nes Harim, Mata in 1975. From there, he began to teach classes on halakhah and take care of other Jewish issues in the villages. He also taught classes and lectures in secular public schools, and he strengthened religious education.
On August 21, 2013, Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef released a psak Halacha stating it is an obligation and mitzvah for parents to have their children vaccinated for polio virus.
On July 24, 2013, Rabbi Yosef was elected to serve as Sephardi Chief Rabbi of Israel and Rishon Lezion, a position he will hold for a decade. The inauguration took place on 14 August 2013 at the official residence of the President of Israel.
Together they founded the Kollel Hazon Ovadia in 1973 after his father was elected Chief Rabbi of Israel. He was ordained a rabbi, judge and chief rabbi in Jerusalem Shalom Messas, together with the rest the first class of graduates, by the chief rabbis and chief rabbi Israel. He was named head of the school with the start of the second class.

Yitzhak Yosef, Hebrew: yTSHk yvsp – born January 16, 1952, is the Sephardi Chief Rabbi in Israel. He is also known as Rishon LeZion and author of Yalkut Yosef, a series of books on Jewish law.
He was just 18 years old and was studying at Yeshivat HaNev. In 1971, he began to collect halakhic rulings in five volumes of Yavia Omer (the book of his father’s responsa) and published them as Yalkut Yosef. His father supported and supervised the publication of the book. This book is often referred to as one of his father’s books, because it summarizes his father’s rulings. He went through each section section by section and added his comments.
In 1992, he expanded Hazon Ovadia to a yeshiva for boys high school age and older. This was necessary because of unrest among the Sephardi Haredi community stemming from disagreements with the Ashkenazi Litvak yeshiva.
