Wang Yao (Chinese: Wang Yao and pinyin: Wang Yao ), born on the 4th of June 1984, and referred to by her pen name Xia Jia (Chinese: Xia Jia and pinyin: Xia Jia ), is a Chinese science-fiction and fantasy author. After obtaining her Ph.D. in literary studies and comparative literature at the Department of Chinese, Peking University in 2014, she’s currently an academic lecturer in Chinese literary studies in Xi’an Jiaotong University.

On June 4 on the 4th of June, 2015 (online on the date before) the short story by Xia Jia “Let’s have a talk” (Mandarin: “Rang Women Shuoshuohua” Rang Wo Men Shuo Shuo Hua ) was published in Nature 522, 122. One of the first Chinese fiction writers to be published in Nature, Xia Jia has earned international recognition from Sci-Fi readers across the world.

A single of Jia’s works, “Chinese science fiction in Post-Three-Body era” was originally published in People’s Daily, April 7 2015. It was awarded the Silver Award for Best Review Articles at the 6th Nebula Awards for Science Fiction and Fantasy in Chinese on October 18, 2015.

Xia Jia’s short-fiction works have received Five Galaxy Awards for Chinese Science Fiction and the equivalent of six Nebula Awards for Science Fiction and Fantasy in Chinese. A short story she wrote earned an honorable mention at the 2013, the Science Fiction & Fantasy Translation Awards. Her stories have appeared by Nature, Clarkesworld, Year’s Best Science Fiction, SF Magazine as well as the influential Chinese Science Fiction publication Science Fiction World. In addition to stories that are written by her in Chinese and English Her stories are translated in Czech, Italian, Japanese and Polish.
