Wilson Kipsang Kiprotich is one of the most popular and richest Long- Distance Runner who was born on March 15, 1982 in Keiyo District, Kenya. Wilson is returning to Berlin in September in an attempt in breaking the WR and to get his a** with fellow countryman Eliud Kipchoge. In the press conference prior to race, Wilson has revealed that his goal was to run an unbalanced split, setting 61:30 as his goal for the half-way mark. The race day came and went, Wilson was unable to keep up with the pace he had set and finished third, just in the third place behind Amos Kipruto and Eliud Kipchoge who set the record for the marathon WR by running a timing of 2:11:39.

He participated at the World 10K Bangalore in May 2009 and came in fourth place. He participated at his very first IAAF World Half Marathon Championships in the final week of that year, finishing in fourth in a time of 1:08.08.

In April 2010 he made his marathon debut in the Paris Marathon, and finished third in a time of 2:07:13 hours, half a minute behind winner Tadesse Tola. He won the Frankfurt Marathon in October in a new course record of 2:04:57, this time beating Tadesse by over a minute. The time made him the eighth fastest marathoner ever.

Kipsang is a two-time winner of the Frankfurt Marathon (2010 and 2011) and has also won the London Marathon (2012 and 2014), New York Marathon (2014), and Tokyo Marathon (2017). He holds the twelfth best time over the half marathon distance (58:59 minutes).

He was back in Tilburg for the Tilburg 10 Miles in 2008 and was runner-up again only two seconds behind the winner Abiyote Guta. The year’s best performance was in a half-marathon race, that of the Delhi Half Marathon. Kipsang ran Merga his 2007 World Road Running Champion, all the way to the finish finishing line, but was only one second ahead of him. Despite finishing second, Kipsang improved his best by a full minute to 59:16. It was also the third-fastest half marathon of any runner in the year and included Merga as well as Haile Gebrselassie leading Kipsang by a mere an inch each.

Despite being the favourite for the 2009 Berlin Half Marathon, he ended up in third place in a fast race which was the first occasion in which all the top-four runners finished under an hour.
