William Cowan Rennie (born 27 September 1967) is also called Willie Rennie, is a Scottish politician who is the leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats since 2011. He is an MSP in the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for North East Fife since 2016 in addition to serving as the MSP in Mid Scotland and Fife (from 2011 until the year 2016) and also as a the Member of Parliament (MP) in Dunfermline as well as West Fife (from 2006 to in 2010).

Following the death of Labour MEP Rachel Squire died, Rennie was a candidate at the Dunfermline and West Fife by-election on 9 February 2006 and won an Labour majority of over 11,800 votes to gain the seat by an increase for his party of 16.24 percent. Within the House of Commons, he was an official on the Liberal Democrat defence spokesperson team as well as the chair of their parliamentarian campaigns unit, as well as an active participant on the Commons Defence Select Committee.

After college, Rennie was a Liberal Democrat election campaigner and official before working as a public relations consultant in the private sector. He became the MP for Dunfermline and West Fife after a by-election win in February 2006. He later lost this seat to Labour in the May 2010 UK general election. From 2001 until 2006, Rennie worked for the tiny Scottish communications company McEwan Purvis as an account director who advised companies and charities like The Royal Society of Chemistry and Asthma UK. In his time working at McEwan Purvis, Rennie was an adviser on press issues for Fife’s Liberal Democrat Opposition Group and was a part of the Dunfermline Focus editorial team, working alongside the Dunfermline Lib Dem councillors on local issues.
