Wakashimazu Mutsuo is one of the most popular and richest Japanese sumo wrestler who was born on January 12, 1957 in Nakatane, Kagoshima, Japan. Wakashimazu Mutsuo (Ruo Dao Jin Liu Fu ) (born 12 January 1957 under the name Mutsuo Hidaka) is a Japanese former sumo wrestler from Nakatane, Kagoshima, Japan. His highest rank was Ozeki. He was the winner of the top two divisions of yusho tournament championships. The coach retired from the sport in 1987, and is currently the head coach of the Nishonoseki stable.

Following his retirement, Wakashimazu established his own stable for training Matsugane in the early part of 1990. The demise of Harunoyama in November 2006 meant that the stable was left with no wrestlers from both divisions in the upper two levels. Sekitori finally came out in March of 2010, when Matsutani (now Shohozan) was promoted to juryo. In 2014, he changed his toshiyori (or elder name) to a more famous name, Nishonoseki, and renamed his stable in the same manner.

In October 2017 he was injured in a fall from his bicycle in Funabashi, Chiba, and underwent emergency surgery for a cerebral contusion. He stepped down from his judging duties and did not run for re-election to the Sumo Association board in 2018.

The couple has been together the former pop/enka artist Mizue Takada since the year 1985. When he was promoted to the top level in 1981, he mentioned Takada when he spoke to her as his ideal wife. It was four years prior to when it took place.

He was born into a family of farmers. He was an old classmate of Tsuyoshi Nagabuchi during Junior high school. Wakashimazu wrestled for the Futagoyama stable from March 1975. In contrast to most professional sumo wrestlers, Wakashimazu did not start his career in junior high school but was a student after high school. He was an HS sumo champion but required some convincing from his stablemaster to be able to gain enough weight to be successful in sumo professional. He was introduced to the sport alongside the top division regulars of the future Daijuyama as well as Kirishima. He climbed the sekitori ranks at a salary in March 1980 following his promotion into the juro division. He was promoted to the makuuchi division at the top in January 1981. He was averaging 10 wins during his first makuuchi appearance. He swiftly progressed through the division and won five special prizes, including two in the category of Fighting Spirit and three for Technique. He reached the second highest ranking of ozeki in January 1983, following two runners-up finishes and 34 wins of 45 wins in the previous three tournaments. After scoring a 10-5, when he made his debut in ozeki and a broken leg in the next tournament, but he made an impressive recovery with a score of 13-2 and runner-up awards in the subsequent event in May 1983.

Wakashimazu was a favorite among fans and his lean and slim physique led to his being dubbed”The Black Panther” “Black Panther”, His greatest year was 1984, where he took two championships in the top division of tournaments in the months of March and July The second one with an unbeatable 15-0 record, however, he was able to only manage third place at the tournament in September 1984 and was not able to advance to the top rank of yokozuna. But he did finish 1984 with 71 victories out of 90 possible which is higher than the average of any wrestler (the three yokozuna at that at the time were Kitanoumi, Chiyonofuji and Takanosato all suffered from injuries throughout the course of the year). March 1985 was the month that saw six of his final finish as a runner-up. Since November 1985, his performances declined In an effort to improve his luck, the player switched his signature mawashi that was kelly green to a lighter blue mawashi however he soon changed back to the light blue mawashi when his results failed to improve. He was forced to retire in July 1987, at the age 30 and left Futagoyama without a single member. Futagoyama stable without a player in the san’yaku ranks , for only the second time in more than fifteen years.

In September 2010 he was demoted in the Sumo Association’s hierarchy after he accepted lodgings in Osaka for the Haru tournament the previous March from a company president connected to gangsters. In addition, two of his wrestlers, Matsutani and the sandanme ranked Wakarikido, were suspended for two tournaments for illegal betting on baseball. However, he joined the Board of Directors in 2014, and was re-elected in 2016. Also in 2016 he became head of the judging department.
