Vinod Joshi is one of the most popular and richest Poet who was born on August 13, 1955 in Amreli, Gujarat, India. Vinod Joshi was born on 13 August 1955 in Bhoringda which is a village in the Amreli district in Gujarat state. His family is native of Botad. The father of his son, Hargovinddas Joshi was a Sanskrit scholar and was an official of the Panchayat Mantri in rural Saurashtra. Joshi was inspired by the folklore of Gujarati language spoken by the mother of his, Lilavati Joshi.
Joshi completed the Bachelor of Arts degree in Gujarati literature at the Kavishri Botadkar Arts and Commerce College, Botad, in 1975. He received his master’s degree in the Gujarati Anusnatak Kendra (Gujarati Postgraduate Centre) located at Saurashtra University, Bhavnagar (1976) and also at the Gujarati Bhasha Sahitya Bhavan (Gujarati Language and Literature Department) at Saurashtra University (1977). He was awarded the distinction of a Ph.D. at the age of 80 at Saurashtra University’s Gujarati Bhasha Sahitya Bhavan, Saurashtra University, for his research project Radio Nataknu Kalaswaroop Ane Gujaratima Teno Vikas (The Art of Radio Drama and its development for Gujarati) Gujarati Language) Under the direction under the direction of Ishwarlal A. Parantu, his first anthology of poems, was published in 1984 by the Kavilok Trust. It has been considered to be significant contribution to the Modern Gujarati poetry. The critic Ramanlal Joshi note the collection for its “artistic use of the subtleties of language to achieve poerty”. Parantu was followed in 1985 by Shikhandi. A long narrative poem, Shikhandi is composed in accordance with the rules of Sanskrit prosody. The poem deals with the psyche of Shikhandi and Bhishma, characters from the Mahabharata.
Tundil-tundika (1987), another long narrative poem, is a reinterpretation of the medieval Gujarati padyavaarta form in a modern context. Zalar Vage Zoothadi (1991) is Joshi’s critically acclaimed collection of poems.
Joshi began writing poetry in his school years. When he was in Standard 10, he explored the Sanskrit meters and then moved into the geometrical form. His first poetry appeared around 1973 by Kumar, an Gujarati publication for the language. His poetry have since been published in various other Gujarati periodicals, such as Kavilok, Kavita, Shabdasrishti, Parab, Navneet Samarpan, Buddhiprakash, and Etad.

Vinod Joshi (born 13 August 1955) is an Indian poet writer, critic, and writer in the Gujarati language of Gujarat, India. His works of note include Parantu an assortment composed of Geet (lyric poems) and Shikhandi, a narrative poem that is that is based on the Shikhandi character from the epic poem Mahabharata, Radio Natak: Swarup ane Siddhant (Radio Drama: Form and Theory, an abbreviated Ph.D. research) Tundil-tundika is a variant of padyavarta which is a Gujarati literary genre that dates back to the medieval period as well as Zalar Vage Zoothadi which is an assortment of poems. He was the recipient of his Jayant Pathak Prize (1985) as well as the Critic’s award (1986), Kavishwar Dalpatram Award (2013), Sahitya Gaurav Puraskar (2015), Narsinh Mehta Award (2018) and Kalapi Award (2018).
Joshi was educated in the preschool class during the time of Mohanlal Motichand Balmandir in Gadhada. He finished all of his elementary education in the Government School of Turkha, located in the Botad district, between 1960 until 1966. He attended secondary school at his N.T.M Government High School, Surendranagar (1967-1968); Sarvoday Vidyalaya, Lathidad (1969) and also in Botad’s Government High School, Botad (1970).
Vinod Joshi began his career as a Professor of Gujarati literature in 1977 at the H.L. Patel Arts and Commerce College in Bhayavadar, a town near Upleta. From 1978 to 1987, he was a professor at the Kapadia Mahila Arts College, Bhavnagar. He served as a professor and Head of the Gujarati Department at Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University from 1988 to 2017. He has also served as Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Vice-Chancellor of the same university. He was convener of Gujarati language at Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi from 2008 to 2012, and has again been appointed as convener at the same national institution for 2018 to 2022.
