He was appointed as acting minister of Justice and Attorney General on April 25, 2015 during the campaign for election, following the retirement of Jonathan Denis. The election in 2015 saw him defeated Alberta general election , by NDP campaigner Bruce Hinkley.
Olson was appointed to succeed Alison Redford as Alberta’s Minister of Justice and Attorney General on February 18, 2011. Olson was named the Minister of Agriculture for Alberta on May 8, 2012.
