On May 30, 2014 Ghirardi said he’d quit his position as the chairman for Parma F.C. and also sell Parma F.C.’s stake. He later sold his control holding to the Cypriot-Russian corporation Dastraso Holding Limited in December 2014.
The 3rd January 2007 Ghirardi purchased financially struggling Parma F.C. during an auction in preparation for the transfer of Parma F.C. The club was sacked by Stefano Pioli after just two games, and then took over the role of Claudio Ranieri, but the club struggled to stay in the game. It was inevitable to be relegated, but the final day win ensured Parma’s spot in Italy’s highest division for the next season. He responded by spending EUR11M in new players. However, Parma were relegated to Serie B after nineteen consecutive seasons in the top division.
