de Rham was born in Lausanne. She completed her undergraduate degree in France with an engineering diploma in physics from the Ecole Polytechnique in Paris in 2000. She earned a master’s degree from the department of Physics at the Ecole polytechnique federale de Lausanne (EPFL) in 2001. The year 2002 was the time de Rham moved to the UK where she completed her PhD within the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics at the University of Cambridge on “braneworld cosmology beyond the low-energy limit”. She was trained as a pilot and passed many phases through the European Space Agency’s selection process for astronauts.

Following her doctorate, de Rham moved to Montreal to join the Physics Department at McGill University. She transferred into McMaster University and the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics in 2006, and was there in a joint postdoctoral post in Cosmology. In 2010, she was hired by Geneva University as an Assistant Professor. She transferred into Case Western Reserve University in 2011 and was appointed Associate Professor there in 2016. She was a member of Imperial College London in 2016. In 2016, she was awarded an amount of PS100,000.00 Wolfson Merit Award from the Royal Society, “Massive Gravity from Cosmology to Condensed Matter Systems”.
