Tomasz Mackiewicz Biography

Tomasz Mackiewicz is one of the most popular and richest Mountaineer who was born on January 13, 1975 in Działoszyn, Łódź Voivodeship, Poland. The year 2008 was the time that Mackiewicz received an award of “feat of the year” award alongside Mark Klonowski for an extensive trek up Mount Logan. In 2009, he climbed Khan Tengri 7,010m (23,000 feet) as an unsupported climber. He attempted several times to climb Nanga Parbat in winter. In 2015, while working together with Klonowski the year 2015, he climbed to 7400 meters (24,300 feet) and in 2016 together with French climber Elisabeth Revol, he reached 7200 metres (23,600 feet) in Nanga Parbat. It was his first person in the world who reached an altitude of eight thousand feet in the style of the alpine during winter. For this, he was awarded an award called the Piolet d’Or award.

On the 25th of January of 2018, as he attempted his seventh attempt at an ascent in winter from Nanga Parbat, known as the “Killer Mountain”, in Pakistan with an elevation of 8,126 meters (26,660 feet), Mackiewicz had reached the summit from the Diamer side, along alongside French climber Elisabeth Revol. On the top, Revol noticed Mackiewicz’s bad health and began to take the climber down. According Revol, he was in a very bad state. Revol she could not walk, read or communicate, and was bleeding extensively from his nose and mouth. She shackled him against the wind with an abyss, called for help, and began her descent through the mountains. Mackiewicz was suffering from extreme frostbite as well as snow blindness. It is also believed Revol was in the final stages of high-altitude pulmonary embolism and cerebral edema at high altitude. Revol was found to have some frostbite on his five toes.

Another Polish team who was trying to climb an adjacent K2 summit K2 was contacted for help. On the 27th of January of 2018 the rescue group comprising Denis Urubko and Adam Bielecki were taken from a helicopter 4,900 meters (16,100 feet) at the summit. The rescue team saved Revol at 6,026 metres (19,770 feet) and carried Revol to the safety of. Mackiewicz who was believed to be inside his tent in the area of 7,400 meters (24,300 feet) was not saved because of poor weather and a snowstorm.
