He was selected in beginning of the 1993 NHL Entry Draft, 9th overall from the Dallas Stars, following a impressive junior career that included captaining the Canadian team in the World Junior Hockey Championships.
Harvey has been an assistant coach of the team of OHL’s Guelph Storm since August 2013.

Harvey was born in Hamilton, Ontario and grew up in the city located in Sheffield, Ontario. Harvey played minor hockey with the Beverly Merchants of the OMHA before he began playing Jr.B. hockey at the age of 14 for the Cambridge Winterhawks. He played for two seasons as a Jr.B. with OHA. OHA before being chosen 1st overall for the 1991 OHL Priority Selection of the Detroit Jr. Red Wings of the OHL.
Harvey joined Harvey signed with the Edmonton Oilers just prior to the NHL lockout and was a part of the team after the lockout was over. Harvey played on the cast of the cinderella Edmonton Oiler team that made an appearance in the Stanley Cup Finals. But, the Oilers fell in the 7th game of the final in the finals to Carolina Hurricanes. Harvey scored one goal and one assist during this year’s Stanley Cup playoffs. After the incredible Cup run Harvey had to be released of the remainder of his contract, along with the backup goalie Ty Conklin. In contrast to Conklin, Harvey was unable to find a new club in the offseason, and he was forced to retire in the year 2006.
