Delius is a duo with Bassist Wilbert de Joode. The duo forms an ensemble with keyboardist Cor Fuhler, as well as a variety of drummers (Louis Moholo and Paul Lovens to name two) and also founded his own group, the Trio San Francisco with reed players South African Sean Bergin and Italian Daniele D’Agaro. He has also formed apa ini, a band composed of Wilbert de Joode Hilary Jeffery (trombone) and Serigne Gueye (djembe).
He has worked in Europe and overseas with among others Steve Lacy, Louis Moholo’s Viva-la-black, Bill Frisell, Mark Feldman and Trio Clusone, Misha Mengelberg, Steve Beresford, Jeb Bishop, Kent Kessler, Nora Mulder & Hamid Drake and Ray Anderson.
He has worked with many musicians such as Available Jelly, Hammeriver, Sean Bergin’s MOB, ICP Orchestra, Chris Abelen Quintet, Joost Buis and his Famous Astronotes, Frank van Bommel Quartet, and Curtis Clark.

Delius started playing saxophone around 1981 in Germany. From 1983 to 1984, he was a resident of Mexico City where he played in the “Cuarteto Mexicano de Jazz” with musician Francixco Tellez.
Delius relocated from Amsterdam in 1984 to study briefly in the Sweelinck Conservatorium. Delius soon became involved in Amsterdam Improvisers and decided to drop his studies in order to get immersed in the world of improvised music. In 1990, he received the Podiumprijs by the organization Stichting Jazz in The Netherlands. In February of 2004, Delius was awarded the VPRO/Boy Edgar Award. It is the Netherlands the most prestigious prize in the field of improvised music.
Tobias Delius leads his own quartet with Tristan Honsinger (cello), Joe Williamson (double bass) and Han Bennink (drums). The CDs The Heron, Toby’s Mloby and Pelikanismus were enthusiastically received both at home and abroad.
