Timothy Logan McCurdy (born 16 January 1963) is an Australian politician from Australia. McCurdy has been an elected Member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly since 2010 and has represented Murray Valley until 2014 and Ovens Valley thereafter. McCurdy was the deputy minister in charge of gaming, veterans, sports and liquor controls until March 2018, when he announced his resignation due to the decision taken by Victoria Police to formally charge McCurdy with fraud-related offences.

McCurdy was criticized in 2019 by Liberal M.P. Tim Smith in 2019 for hiring the wife of one of his daughters within his electorate office, at taxpayer’s cost McCurdy was criticized by Liberal MP Tim Smith for employing his wife and daughter Smith declared to be “totally acceptable”. But, unlike counterparts from the federal system, state legislators are not restricted from employing family members as taxpayer-funded employees.

The news broke in July 2017 that it had been revealed that McCurdy was under investigation by police over alleged fraud following allegations that, while working as an agent for real estate during 2009, McCurdy faked documents to obtain sales commissions of around $375,000. Victoria Police searched McCurdy’s office and home as part of their investigation. In March of 2018, police charged McCurdy with multiple fraud-related offenses and he resigned from the portfolios of the shadow ministry. In October of 2018, it was revealed that he would be facing for trial on 10 fraud charges. In March of 2019 the Crown was able to convince McCurdy’s County Court to move the fraud trial away from the Shepparton County Court (located near McCurdy’s electoral district) and to Melbourne County Court. McCurdy was able to delay the trial until the end of May 2020 due to the absence of his barrister Ian Hill QC.

As of September 14, PGW Agriservices issued a lawsuit in the matter of McCurdy before the County Court of Victoria claiming damages totalling $375,741 in respect of deceptive and misleading behaviour and unconscionable behavior in contravention in accordance with the Fair Trading Act. The allegations relate to McCurdy’s prior career as real estate agent, and commissions of $375,741 that were paid out in connection with his sale of two farms, including the purchase of the ‘Malmo’ farm 50 km to the north in Shepparton in Shepparton for $7.8 million on July 9, 2009, and “Pinegrove” located at Katamatite at $3.9 millions in the month of December. Each property was sold the Chinese buyer, Xing Long International. The statement of claim claimed that McCurdy was a fraudster and forged the signature of his previous employer and colleague, Andrew Gilmour, to gain from the sales after McCurdy quit his job with PGG Wrightson, and had informed Gilmour his sales were “fallen over” and “were not proceeding due to the lack of finance”. McCurdy settled the civil case against him later in the year.
