Taras Filenko is one of the most popular and richest Musicologist who was born on October 1, 1958 in Kiev, United Kingdomraine. Taras Filenko (Ukrainian: Taras Filenko) (born 1 October 1958) is an ethnomusicologist, lecturer and concert pianist best known for his work and the resurgence in Ukrainian music history from the 18th-19th century. His research and Dr. Filenko’s findings can be found in the Ph.D. dissertation from the Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine (1989) as well as the 2nd Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology from University of Pittsburgh (1998) as well as The World of Mykola Lysenko book available in English (2000) as well as Ukrainian (2009). In his two years as a recipient of the Fulbright Scholarship, Dr. Filenko has delivered seminars and created courses at universities across Europe in Europe and North America focused on the traditional and ethnic music culture that is prevalent in Eastern Europe.

Taras Filenko was the child of the Dr. Tamara Bulat, a famous author along with Yuri Filenko, space scientist. Professor. Filenko is the recipient of both Fulbright and Petesh Scholarships. He has been a part of various musicological conferences, as well as international symposiums across Belgium, France, Canada as well as Canada, the United States, England, Poland as well as Poland, the Baltic States, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Russia. In 1990 Professor. The book was published in 1989. Taras was a part of his mom’s creation and study of the book. The book was augmented by UMF and the crew comprised of Filenko, and Bulat finally published the book in 2001. The book was immediately awarded an award of “Book of the Year” award from the Publisher’s Association of Ukraine. It was also highly acclaimed from members of the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture. The Ukrainian version is currently on the way and 2002 was declared the Ukraine’s “Year of Mykola Lysenko.” Taras also wrote an introduction on Ukrainian Classical Music at the Ukrainian Cultural and Humanitarian Institute.

Since 1986 Filenko was appointed as a professor to instruct Ukrainian music, piano and literature for piano within the National Academy of Music in Ukraine. Over the next five years, Filenko was a lecturer within the History of Ukrainian Music Department in the following year, and later for five years, as Director of the Assistant Dean of the Conducting and Voice Departments. He also served as research assistant for the Institute of Ukrainian Studies at the National University of Kiev.

Since 1998, Dr. Filenko is on the faculty of the City Music Center, at Duquesne University. He currently resides in Pittsburgh, PA, where he maintains a highly regarded private piano studio.
