He was born in Blackpool, Lancashire, Croft made his debut with the Lancashire Second XI at the age of 16 in the month of May 2001. Croft was the first player to make his Lancashire debut at the age of 15 in the year 2005, after having had made the list A debut at Lancashire Cricket Board in 2002. Croft played in all 16 Championship matches and finished with 825 runs at an average of 31.73, making him the club’s fourth highest run-scorer (only two Lancashire batsmen managed over- 1,000 runs in the 2011 season).
