Steve Walters is one of the most popular and richest English footballer who was born on January 9, 1972 in Ipswich, Queensland, Australia. Steve Walters (born 9 January 1972) is a English ex-footballer, who was in the Football League for Crewe Alexandra and also in the Football Conference for Northwich Victoria, Morecambe and Stevenage Borough. The midfielder was his name.

As of 2002 Walters became a part of Rhyl in Rhyl of Welsh Premier League. In 2003-2004, the team took home the league title, and the Welsh Cup, the Welsh League Cup and advanced to the semi-finals of the FAW Premier Cup. He was included as the League’s Team of the Year.

On 16 November 2016, former Crewe defender Andy Woodward revealed that he had been a victim of child sexual abuse by former football coach Barry Bennell (convicted as a paedophile in 1998) at the club in the 1980s. Subsequently, other victims contacted the police, and on 22 November, The Guardian reported that Walters had been another of Bennell’s victims. In Manchester on 5 December 2016, Walters was one of five abuse victims at the launch of an organisation, the Offside Trust, to support player victims of abuse and their families. With Woodward (until he resigned on 27 January 2017) and Chris Unsworth, Walters was one of the Trust’s directors.

In early 2017, Walters (who now runs a cleaning company) repeatedly bemoaned the lack of support expressed by current professional players to abuse victims, describing it as a “deafening silence” and “shocking and hurtful”. It was also reported he had been on a course of counselling at the Priory provided by the Professional Footballers’ Association.

He quit soccer leagues in the year 1995 and joined Football Conference side Northwich Victoria. After five years at Victoria Walters signed with Morecambe which he played for one season. Then, in 2001 Walters was transferred to Stevenage Borough after which he moved onto Kidsgrove Athletic.

Born from Plymouth, Devon, Walters first caught the attention of people in 1984 after he was awarded the competition held at Butlin’s Minehead for which the prize was an opportunity to join Manchester United, and was later spotted by Coach Barry Bennell. He was part of the Football Association’s center of excellence located at Lilleshall Hall in the same category as former England nationals Andy Cole and Ian Walker and decided to begin his career with Crewe Alexandra due to their reputation for nurturing young talents. He made his debut debut at the age of 16 years and 119 days on the 7th of May 1988 in a match against Peterborough United. The first Crewe goal came in a match against Hartlepool United at Gresty Road on the 4th of March in 1989. In the beginning of the 1990s, he put his resume with 173 appearances for the club in all competitions and scored eleven goals. He also appeared at the 1993 Football League Third Division play-off Final, in which Crewe was defeated on penalties by York City, though they were promoted automatically one year later.

Walters was questioned multiple times by the police following the initial conviction of Bennell of child abuse and exploitation throughout the United States, but denied the allegations that he had been victimized and feared that he might lose his job due to the incident.

He then managed Rhos Aelwyd, where he was appointed manager in 2007. In 2007–08, the team won the FAW Trophy, and a year later the Welsh National League Premier Division Cup; in 2009–10 the club won the Welsh National League and promotion into the Cymru Alliance. He was named manager of the season for their first campaign back in the second tier. In August 2011 he moved into the coaching staff at Buckley Town. He was appointed under-19 coach at Airbus UK Broughton in October 2012.
