Staceyann Chin (born December 25 1972) is a spoken-word poet, performer artist, and LGBT rights activist. Her work has been featured on The New York Times, The Washington Post, and the Pittsburgh Daily, and has been included in 60 Minutes. She also appeared in The Oprah Winfrey Show, in which she spoke about her experiences growing up as a lesbian individual in Jamaica.

Chin’s poems can be found in her chapbook debut, Wildcat Woman, the one she is carrying on her back Stories Surrounding My Arrival and a variety of anthologies such as Skyscrapers, Taxis and Tampons, Poetry Slam, Role Call, Cultural Studies: Critical Methodologies. Chin’s voice is heard on compilation CDs of the Bar 13as well as Union Square and Pow Wow productions. Chin released her novel in 2009. Chin wrote her own autobiographical work, The Other Side of Paradise The Other Side of Paradise: A Memoir.

The year 2009 was the first time Chin appeared as a character in The People Speak The People Speak, an American documentary film that employs music and dramatic performances of diaries, letters and speeches of every day Americans that are based on the work of historian Howard Zinn’s A People’s History of the United States.

Staceyann has performed across the globe, performing on stage in London, Denmark, Germany, South Africa and New York’s Central Park Summer Stage. She was selected by the Equality Forum as one of their 31 icons of year 2015. Chin was born in Jamaica but now lives in New York City, in Brooklyn. She is of Chinese-Jamaican and Afro-Jamaican descent. She announced in 2011 that she was pregnant with her first child, giving birth to her daughter Zuri in January 2012. She has been candid about her pregnancy by means of in-vitro fertilization, and wrote about her experiences as a pregnant, single lesbian in a guest blog for the Huffington Post.
