She was the first golfer from China to be a part of the LPGA Tour, which she joined in the year 2008. Feng has won 10 times on the tour including in 2012’s LPGA Championship, a major championship where she shot a bogey-free , 67 during the last round and won with two shots. She was the first player from China to take home the LPGA Major Championship, and being the very first person who is from the mainland of China (male and female) to take home the major championship. Her top finish from the 16 previous majors was tied for 22nd place at the 2012 Kraft Nabisco Championship. After winning, she went from tenth place to fifth on rankings for women in the Global Golf Rankings. On August 20, 2016, Feng was awarded the Olympic bronze medal for women’s golf during in the 2016 Olympic Games at Rio de Janeiro. From November 2017 until April 2018 she was the top player to be ranked in the World’s Women’s Golf Rankings.

When Feng was in high school, an agent came across her at a golf tournament in China which led to her meeting her coach Gary Gilchrist. At the age of Feng was 17, Gilchrist offered her a full scholarship to the junior academy of golf situated in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Feng took the invitation and relocated to the U.S in hopes of becoming the best golfer in America. Despite the Gilchrist scholarship academy, the cost of living as well as tuition fees at the nearby high school and travel costs became substantial financial burdens for Feng’s parents Feng Xiong and Zheng Yuyan who both are employed at government institutes and make a decent salary. Feng’s parents spent nearly all their savings towards the end of 2007, and were considering mortgaging their home to provide for their daughter. However, their family’s support resulted in a positive outcome during the month of December 2007. Feng an amateur teen who was selected for LPGA Tour’s season 2008 by placing ninth at the qualifying tournament of the Tour.

Feng won the China Junior Championship and the China Junior Open in 2004. She was three times a champion of the China Amateur Tournament (2004-06).
