Carolyn Cole is one of the most popular and richest Photographer who was born on April 24, 1961 in Boulder, United States. Carolyn Cole, a Los Angeles Times staff photographer, was born April 24, 1961. For her coverage of Monrovia, Liberia’s capital in 2003, she won the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography 2004.

Cole spent time in Kosovo in 1999 during the crisis and two months in Afghanistan in 2001. Cole was there to cover the 2002 start of the famous siege of Bethlehem’s Church of the Nativity. The building had been occupied for years by Palestinian militants. On May 2, Cole made a last-minute choice to join a group peace activists who entered into the building in solidarity and support of the Palestinians. She was a double news reporter at the Times for nine days, and filed several stories. She was the only photographer in the building. She was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize 2003 for her photographs.

In 2004, Cole was named both NPPA Newspaper Photographer of the Year for a second time, for her work in both Liberia and Iraq, and the Pictures of the Year International Newspaper Photographer by the University of Missouri’s Missouri School of Journalism. This made her the first person ever to win all three of America’s top photojournalism awards in the same year. During the year, she also spent time in Haiti, witnessing the fall of the regime of Jean- Bertrand Aristide. Cole has also received the Robert Capa Gold Medal from the Overseas Press Club in both 2003 and 2004, and won two World Press Photo awards in 2004.

In 2007, she won the NPPA Newspaper Photographer of the Year.

She was awarded an editorial award in 1994 for her photographs of the Haiti crisis. This was the year she also moved to Times. She was again recognized for her work in Russia the following year. She gained national attention in 1997 for her photos of Emil Matasareanu (dead bank robber) who was shot following a nationally televised shootout between police and she. His family filed a wrongful death suit against her for the use of his evidence. Her photographs also won the Times a Pulitzer Prize in Journalism for their coverage of the event. She was later named Journalist of Year by the Times Mirror Corporation. She was awarded the National Press Photographers Association Newspaper Photographer of the year award in 2002. Mid-2003 saw Cole travel to Liberia as rebels attacked Monrovia’s capital demanding President Charles Taylor’s resignation. She was awarded the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for her “unique, behind-the scenes look at civil war in Liberia with special attention to innocent civilians caught up in the conflict.” She was awarded the 2003 George Polk Award in photojournalism.

Cole received a Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of Texas in 1983, with a major in photojournalism. She received her Master of Arts degree at Ohio University’s School of Visual Communication.
