Shane Hnidy (/’ in aI d i’ NY -dee, born on the 8th of November 1975) is a Canadian retired professional ice hockey defenseman. Between 2000 between 2000 and 2011, he was a player with the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Ottawa Senators, Nashville Predators, Atlanta Thrashers, Anaheim Ducks, Boston Bruins, and Minnesota Wild. He is currently a part of the Vegas Golden Knights broadcast team on AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain.

At the time of the start of the 2010-11 season Hnidy had not signed a contract as a free agent. On February 23, 2011 the news was that Hnidy was re-joining with the Boston Bruins on a try-out basis. On February 26, 2011 Hnidy was signed on an agreement to Boston Bruins for the rest of the season. He will play the role of a depth defenseman. The Bruins were victorious in their first Stanley Cup by defeating the Vancouver Canucks in a 7-game Stanley Cup Final. While his name isn’t be on the Stanley Cup, he was given an official Stanley Cup ring and was featured on the official team photograph. He was granted an opportunity to play with his Stanley Cup on August 18 in 2011, and officially ended his career on August 31, 2011.

In July of 2009 Hnidy was signed as an unrestricted free-agent for the Minnesota Wild to a one-year contract.

Hnidy played in junior hockey for his team the Swift Current Broncos and Prince Albert Raiders of the WHL. He was selected at the seventh round (173rd overall) in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft by the Buffalo Sabres, although he did not play for the team. When he made the move to professional hockey after 1996 was a player in minor leagues with teams Saint John of the AHL, Grand Rapids of the IHL, Cincinnati and Adirondack of the AHL before being transferred for Ottawa Senators in 2000. Hnidy was announced as a color-commentator for the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights for their 2017–18 inaugural season on August 16, 2017.
