Shahin Shahablou is one of the most popular and richest Photographer who was born on January 27, 1964 in Tehran, Iran. Shahin Shahablou (27 January 1964 15 April 2020) was an Iranian photographer from Iran.
He was born in Tehran. The passion for photography led him to a bachelor’s degree, and later an advanced master’s degree in the area of photography from Tehran’s University of Tehran. The final two academic years in his degree, he was with the Iranian Cultural Heritage Organisation , documenting historic sites, while also running the darkroom of the organization. He was a teacher of photography and enjoyed solo exhibits in Iran as well as India. He was a photojournalist for the brand new Azad newspaper which was a pro-reformist newspaper which was published during the relatively liberal period during the presidency of Mohammad Khatami. He became a photographer as well as a director for the Iranian Photojournalists Association.
In 2011, he fled Iran in 2011 to Britain in the hope to live a more open and less restricted lifestyle. In Britain, he was granted refugee status, and became known for his photographs of LGBT subjects. He also served as photographer at Amnesty International. as well as for events with Cooltan Arts. In addition to the photography aspect, Shahablou worked in a supermarket.

When Azad was shut in 2001 after it published a cartoon of an ayatollah. Shahin went on journeys across India and Afghanistan for the purpose of locating documentary subjects, which resulted in critically-acclaimed solo shows of his work in Delhi as well as Tehran. He continued to teach and then returned back to Tehran University of Art to finish an MA in photography in the year 2006.
He was a homosexual and was a homosexual rights advocate. The growing social repression that followed Mahmoud Ahmadinejad came to power in 2005 saw Shahin being detained by the state as a political prisoner being part of a group that was dissident.
Shahablou died of COVID-19, aged 56, on 15 April 2020.
