At the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, Akase took home silver in the 200-meter backstroke, with a speed of 2:10.31 which is 3/10ths of a second quicker over Chinese swimming Chen Jie. Akase also participated in the 50-meter backstroke, and placed eighth in the competition, with a the time of 29.18.

Akase was the first international athlete to compete in her debut at the 2013 World Aquatics Championships in Barcelona.
