Sandy Dukat is one of the most popular and richest Triathlete who was born on May 3, 1972 in Canton, Ohio, United States. Sandra “Sandy” Dukat (born May 3 1972) is an American Paralympic athlete. Born with proximal focal femoral deficit, she had her right leg amputated above her knee at four. She has been a world champion on alpine skiing and swimming, and triathlon. In February of 2013, she holds the world marathon record for amputees above knees.

In 2007 Dukat was among five females with disabilities who scaled Mt. Kilimanjaro as a way to raise funds and launched the scholarship program for female disabled alpine skiers from the National Sports Center for the Disabled in Colorado.

Having previously competed in 5K, 10K and half marathon races, Dukat ran her first marathon in January 2009. She was paced by training partner and below- knee amputee world record holder Amy Palmiero-Winters. With a time of 4:40:46, she was the first female above-knee amputee to finish a marathon in less than 5 hours.

Dukat attended Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio. For a number of years, she worked as an information specialist for the National Center on Physical Activity and Disability. She now works at The Hartford, liaising with US Paralympics. In this role, she won the USOC’s Amazing Impact Award for The Hartford’s ‘Achieve Without Limits’ campaign in 2011.

The year 2003 was the time she was awarded in the Physically Challenged division of the Olympic distance St Anthony’s triathlon. She was selected on the US Paralympic Triathlon Development Team. She was on the USA Triathlon Physically Challenged National Team in 2008.

The year 1996 was the first time Dukat was a member of the swimming team of the RIC. The year 1997 was the year she was awarded two bronze and one silver medals during the USA National Championships, and she won her class in the National 5K Disabled Open Water Invitational. She was selected to the USA Disabled Swim Team in 1998. In 1998, at the Disabled World Swimming Championships she broke the S9 American record at the freestyle 800m event. She also was co-captain of the US Team. However, she did not made it to the finals at the competition.

Dukat first began to take an interest in skiing in 1997 following her participation in an event called the Disabled Sports USA Hartford Show. Dukat started skiing within the RIC Paralympic Sports Program, and then began training for 6 months a season at the National Sports Center for the Disabled in Colorado. Dukat was awarded two bronze medals in alpine skiing during the 2002 Winter Paralympics in Salt Lake City and a bronze award at the 2006 Winter Paralympics in Turin. In the 2004 IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships she was awarded bronze medals for three events: Downhill, Giant slalom and Super-G. She was a winner at this year’s IPC Alpine Skiing World Cup with numerous podium places; during the 2003-2004 season, she placed 5th overall.

Dukat won the Women’s Above Knee division of the USA Triathlon Paratriathlon National Championships in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010. In 2008, she represented the USA at the ITU Triathlon World Championships in Vancouver. She became 2008 World Champion in her above knee impairment classification, and was named 2008 USA Triathlon Paratriathlete of the Year.
