He also acts as an interpreter and hockey scout on behalf of the Anyang Halla of the Asia League Ice Hockey. His scouting work and player evaluation is credited by the General Manager Yang Seung-Jun for being the main reason for the great success that was the Anyang Halla in the 2008-2009 seasons, 2009-2010, and 2010-2011. Kim was also a reporter for in 2010 Winter Olympic hockey for SBS and SBS Sports in Vancouver and also the Astana-Almaty Asian Winter Games for Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation’s MBC Sports+.
In the summer of 2011 Kim suggested the former NHL defenceman Ric Jackman join the team. The club agreed to sign Jackman to a three-year deal. Kim says he is grateful to the former NHL player Brett Callighen, who now is an agent for hockey players as the main reason to his success Scouting.

The club finished with the most successful performance in the league for two years consecutively On March 28, 2010, Anyang Halla became the first non-Japanese side to take home the Asia League championship title, beating the Nippon Paper Cranes in a five-game series. It was described as”the Korean counterpart to the “Miracle on Ice” as the media thought it was the most important victory since the introduction of hockey to Korea in 1928.
