Ron Ardoin won his first 5226 career win at Delta Downs, Vinton, Louisiana in 1973. He won 12 riding titles at Louisiana tracks during his 31 years of racing, six at Fair Grounds Race Course New Orleans and six at Louisiana Downs Bossier City. Ardoin also won the riding title at Lone Star Park, Grand Prairie, Texas. He won the 1996 Arkansas Derby with Zarb’s Magic at Oaklawn Park Race Track, Hot Springs, Arkansas. This was his most important win. He won the Kentucky Derby for the second time, having finished tenth in 1985. This win was followed by a thirteenth-place finish with Zarb’s Magic.
Ron Ardoin was inducted into the Fair Grounds Racing Hall of Fame (1998) and the Lone Star Park Hall of Fame (2007, respectively).
