Rieker was a minor league umpire for thirteen seasons. Rieker was a minor league umpire from 1992 to 1996. He joined the National League in 1996 full- time after John McSherry’s death. Rieker was a member of both the major leagues in 2000, and 2001. Rieker wore uniform number 16 throughout his National League career. He then changed to number 38 when the National League’s and American League umpiring teams merged in 2000.
