Gaston Reginald Yoland Gingras (born 13 February 1959 ) in Temiscaming, Quebec) is a former professional defenceman in ice hockey who played for ten years with the National Hockey League.
At the end of season 1984-85 He was transferred by the Leafs to the AHL where he was a player for the St. Catharines Saints. He was later traded for the Sherbrooke Canadiens, Montreal’s farm team. At this point, another high point of Gingras career came to light. Alongside other famous players including Patrick Roy, Stephane Richer, Brian Skrudland and Ric Nattress, they were the winners of the Calder Cup.
In the 1987–88 season, he played two games for the Canadiens before moving to the St. Louis Blues for almost two seasons. Near the end of the 1988–89 season he moved to Switzerland to play for EHC Biel followed by Hockey Club Lugano in the Italian part of Switzerland.
Although retired, Gingras still plays with the NHL Old Timers. He runs clinics to help youth players to become better players and holds one every Sunday in Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Quebec. In 2007, he went to Salluit Nunavik to help younger Inuit develop their hockey skills. He also trains children for the Montreal Canadiens Hockey School in the Complexe Sportif Bell in Brossard, Montreal.
In 1979’s NHL Entry Draft, Gingras was selected to Montreal’s Montreal Canadiens. Though he wasn’t picked until the second round and was placed 27th overall Montreal’s first pick ahead of players like Mats Naslund Guy Carbonneau and Rick Wamsley. He first played for the Nova Scotia Voyageurs of the American Hockey League, he was a part of the Canadiens during 1980, during the NHL season. Gingras played for four seasons in the Montreal Forum, alongside players like Larry Robinson, Bob Gainey, Guy Lafleur and Steve Shutt and was transferred with the Toronto Maple Leafs for 2 1/2 seasons. With a powerful slap shot, he frequently was the point player during the Habs power play.

He was in 1974 when he was a player with his club, the North Bay Trappers of the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League as well as the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League and then his team, the Hamilton Fincups also of the OHL. Then, he joined in the World Hockey Association for the 1978/79 season playing with his team, the Birmingham Bulls.
Gingras played one season in Birmingham and was joined by Michel Goulet, Rick Vaive, Craig Hartsburg, Rob Ramage, Pat Riggin and Keith Crowder. After the 1978-79 campaign the WHA joined the NHL. The members of the merger included New England (Hartford), Quebec, Winnipeg, and Edmonton. Birmingham and Cincinnati weren’t brought under the auspices NHL and were later was disbanded.
For the 1985–86 season, he returned to the Montreal Canadiens and was part of their Stanley Cup winning team that beat the Calgary Flames four games to one.
