Caruso Lombardi, then the head of Argentinos Juniors was resigned five games into 2007 Apertura tournament despite his team’s 3-2 victory over Boca Juniors three weeks earlier. Newell’s Old Boys hired him, and he won his second victory over Boca, beating them 1-0.
Caruso Lombardi has a preference towards using physically tall footballers on all the positions of the field. In 2010, while coaching Tigre, he was accused by one of his players (Juan Camilo Angulo) of requesting a bribe to put him on the first team. The coach denied the truth of the accusations.

Caruso Lombardi retired and began coaching in the lower leagues. He won the Primera B Metropolitana (third Division) in 1995-96 with Sportivo Italiano and won it again in 2004-05 with Tigre.

Lombardi began his playing career in Argentina with the Juniors in 1981. His playing career was mainly in the lower levels of Argentine football, except for 1984, when he played one season with Club Atletico Atlanta’s Primera Division.
