Ray Farrugia is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on October 1, 1955 in Floriana, Malta. Raymond “Zazu” Farrugia was born in Floriana, Malta on 1 October 1955. He is a former football player and coach. He has been the head coach of the national football team of Malta from 2 May 2018 to the end 2019.
Farrugia was a player for Malta four times, twice against Tunisia and the famous 12-1 defeat against Spain. He also played once against the Netherlands. Farrugia had attracted the attention of Australia while playing in Sydney. However, he couldn’t join the squad as he had already played for Malta.
After finishing in the last position in the UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying group, in November 2019 the Malta Football Association announced that Farrugia’s contract will not be renewed after its expiry at the end of the year.
Farrugia was the coach of Naxxar Lions between 1994 and 1998. Between 2011 and 2014, he was the Malta’s under-21 coach. He was promoted to assistant coach by Pietro Ghedin, who was in charge of the Malta senior team.

Ray Farrugia began his career in Floriana’s hometown team. He played there for four years from 1974 to 1978. He moved to Sydney, Australia in 1978 to play for Melita Eagles. He was so popular that he was honored with the first ever testimonial match in Australia.
He returned to Malta in 1990 to play for Naxxar Lions until 1994.
Farrugia debuted as Malta manager on May 29, 2018, against the Armenia national football team with a satisfactory draw. He introduced Malta national under-21 football team players in the squad, such as the likes of Jake Grech and Jurgen Degabriele. He also handed a full debut to Gozitan Ferdinando Apap. Farrugia’s second match was a narrow defeat of 1-0 against the Georgia national football team.
