Faksa signed an entry level contract with Dallas on 6 July 2012. Faksa, who had just finished his junior season with Sudbury, was reassigned to the Stars by their AHL affiliate, Texas Stars, on 3 April 2014.

On 10 January 2014, Faksa was traded by Kitchener to the Sudbury Wolves in exchange for fellow Czech Dominik Kubalík and two second-round draft picks.

Faksa scored his first NHL goal on 6 November 2015 in a victory over the Carolina Hurricanes.

Faksa was primarily a player on the Rangers’ second line in 2011-12. He scored 29 goals and 37 assists, for 66 points, in his first season of North American hockey. Faksa’s draft stock grew throughout the season. He established himself as a top prospect and was ranked fourth in the NHL Central Scouting Bureau midterm ranking of North American skaters. The 2012 CHL Top Prospects Game was his first selection. He won the “Showdown Breakaway Challenge”, in the Top Prospects Skills Competition. Faksa was the OHL’s rookie leading scorer. He also finished second in voting to win the Emms Family Award. This award is given annually to the OHL’s top first-year player. The Award went to Aaron Ekblad, a 15-year-old defenseman.
