Prince Kofi Amoabeng, a Ghanaian businessman and former military officer of Ghana’s Armed Forces, was born February 22, 1952. He was a cofounder of UT Bank, which crashed in 2017, during Ghana’s banking crisis. There were also allegations that he misappropriated bank funds. These allegations are currently being investigated by the courts. He was arrested on January 14th 2020 and released on bail of 110 millions cedis. He claims the charges are political.
In January 2020, Mr. Amoabeng faced charges for embezzling a total of 59.9million Ghana cedis from UT Bank. He was cofounder of the bank that collapsed in the midst of Ghana’s banking crisis. After the original charges were dropped, the prosecution plans to bring additional charges. The charges are political in nature, as he never supported either of the main political parties.
Prince began his education at Penworth Preparatory school, an Accra boarding school. Prince completed his secondary education at Nkwatia Kwahu’s St Peter’s Secondary School and Adisadel College in Cape Coast Ghana, before transferring to the University of Ghana for the undergraduate degree. In 1975, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Administration from the University of Ghana Business School. He was also awarded a scholarship by the Ministry of Defence to study at the Royal Army Pay Corps. He became an accountant in 18 months. After graduation, he decided to return to Ghana.
