In 2004, during the European election, and the following election in 2009, EP election, he won the position of MEP. He was an elected member of the European People’s party’s group and was on the Parliament’s Committee on Transport and Tourism. He also served as an envoy to the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy and Vice-Chair of the Delegation for Relations with the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and a member of the EU’s Delegation for Relations with the United States.
